I am a new member. Wanted to add a signature and found the directions to do so - however when I go to "My Profile" I only see the message "The rest of your profile, and your signature will become visible after you've been active in the forums". I have one post (I guess this would be my second). How many posts before you are considered "active", or is there also a time since joining requirement? I just joined yesterday. Thanks in advance!
How many posts = "active in the forums"?
You should be able to create and edit a signature, but including active hyperlinks and images requires upgrade to supporter or sponsor subscription. Sometimes, it takes a little while for the system to catch up to the fact you have posted. It appears you just upgraded to supporter. You should have full signature permissions shortly if not already. I noticed your badge appeared just as I was replying.
Your post count also affects the number of private messages you may send. As your post count increases, so does the limit on PMs. This is done to prevent the messaging system from being abused by spammers that never post. Let me know if you continue to have problems, and we'll look into it further.
Welcome to Epicski, and thanks for your support.
I got an answer for this...
10 posts plus 10 days on the forum gives automatic trust. I forgot I could do this manually, and took care of it. So, you should be a trusted member now and will see all the profile features.
The anti-spam methods employed by this site certainly detracts from the enjoyability of the site for new users... so far it's been a bit frustrating. Hopefully it will relax for me soon so I can truly enjoy participating in the EpicSki community. I'm persistent, so I'll keep at it for a while, but I can imagine many other new users who are dissuaded from continuing to use the site.
The spam filter is a complete POS. Sorry, but Defensio has done this from day one. Any new user that includes a quote, link or picture in a post gets held for moderation. Dr B Smith, I marked you in a a trusted user, it shouldn't affect you again.
Some sites have turned off the spam filter. We have that option. We will have some spam posted to the forum, so what I would like in return are some volunteers from the community to have the "Superflag" permission. When you flag a post, it is removed from view until approved by a moderator or deleted.
In other words, if you want to remove this inconvenience from new users, I need about 20 members to step up and do this on a volunteer basis.
