Did I meet the famous BWPA and not even realize it?

This past Tuesday was in Stowe area, camping at Smugglers Notch State Park with my wife and kids. We parked the car at the Long Trail and walked up 108 to hike/climb Hell's Brook Trail, up over the Adam's Apple up to the chin of Mt Mansfield.

Was coming back down the Chin trail to pick up Long Trail back to the car when we passed a couple guys and a couple girls on their way up. Stopped to chat for a minute, with my wife talking with one of the guys in particular who said even though he was a local/transplant that it was only his second time (I think) up to the summit in the summer....that he mostly came up in the winter to ski down, taking Hell's Brook to descend.  My wife told the group we were from NY (by which she meant state, not city! - upstate near Binghamton), and we all kept going on our way.

So I get a little farther along and I got to thinking about what this youngster looked like, talked like, and a couple of the things he said made me think maybe I'd just had a brush with Epicski celebrity and didn't even realize it.

I told the kids and my wife, they thought it was kind of funny.

So - BWPA - was that you?  My wife and kids had on their recently earned Cayuga Lake Triathlon shirts. I had on a black visor and some dorky round sunglasses because I forgot to bring extra contacts with me on the trip.

That's pretty funny if it turns out to be the case.  Which brings me to a question...

Are there any Epic Ski stickers or whatever that would make it easier to identify fellow bears on the slopes?  I've met some TGR-ers before I even had an account there just from the "change for a nickel" stickers on their skis.

I could always stick one on top of my apparently quite ugly new Cochise's this year...  cool.gif

It was me. Doesnt it look like awesome skiing up there? Its great to see people getting out on nice days like that.

I am positive because your kids shirts stand out quite a bit.

So curious what was the real tipoff?

Pretty funny...if I'd realized sooner I would have brought up the connection.  I don't spend a lot of time here anymore, esp in the summer months, so it wasn't right at the top of my mind.

I think there was no one tipoff -- it was partly your enthusiasm to talk about the skiing off the chin, partly that I think my mind must have recognized your face a bit from your vids you've posted here, the bit of info about you being a transplant to Stowe -- but what finally triggered it for some odd reason was as I was turning to head down the trail I noticed something on your pack that said MRG on it....not even sure what it was.  But for some reason that got my mind really thinking more about skiing and before we were two minutes down the trail I was pretty sure it was you.

After that day we spent a day climbing around the caves up at Smugglers Notch, hiking to Sterling Pond and then walking the trail between Smuggs and Stowe (the kids got pictures on chairlifts at both), riding the recreation trail, etc.  Headed over to the ADK's for a couple days before getting kicked out when the NYS DEC closed all t he campgrounds.

BWPA - we might be up there a couple times this winter with the kids....will have to hook them up with a lesson with you.  Both are decent skiers, one loves the trees the other does them but gets a bit scared so struggles a bit.  They could use a better teacher than me, whose best advice is don't hit a tree.

Umm, that's pretty good advice.

Are we going to have to give BW his own tag, like Bob Peters?
