That's right.....

From their press release:

Vail Resorts Announces Partnership with Two-Time Olympic Gold Medalist,
Snowboarding and Skateboarding Phenom Shaun White

• Northstar-at-Tahoe to become Shaun White's home mountain and primary training resort
• Launch of new promotion by Vail Resorts which will donate $5 for every Epic Season Pass sold
to Shaun's chosen charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital®

Shaun White at my home mountain, AND some of the money from my Epic Pass goes toward a good cause.

But Seriously, I'm not sure how much time he's actually going to spend at Northstar, but this is kinda cool and something that some of the local kids are stoked about.

I could care less about parks, personally, but I will say the idea of some real talent over there (assuming he will attract quite a bit) will make me keep my eyes peeled on the lifts this year.

Saw him at Northstar last March talking to the park crew and my buddy mentioned how he looked like he owned the place.  Makes a lot more sense in hindsight.

When someone like Shaun makes some place like Northstar his home mountain, do you think he'll sincerely spend his time training there?

He will if they build him what he wants, he is a cali boy I believe.

Sadly, things like this take a lot of the ski areas energy & focus.  Other on hill amenities & maintenance may suffer.

Will it matter, with Vail's deep pockets?  They've committed to a lot of improvements in the next few years.

I don't know, but it will be interesting to see.  If it is a huge snow year like last, I think the impact will be less.  The main thing is that it takes a crapload of machine made snow to build a Shaun White super pipe as well as a ton of Cat hours.  So who cares when there is powder everyday, if not you may notice.

I would imagine that during the season Mr. White has a pretty busy travel schedule, so not a bunch of time for training at home.

Normally I'd say no or maybe... however, because he cut ties with Red Bull, who built him that private training pipe in Colorado, and I think Northstar will bend over backwards to accomodate him, I wouldn't be surprised to see him around there a fair amount this year.  It may be part of the deal - who knows how much Vail is paying him.

Burton Academy is at Northstar.  A snowboard trainer/Examiner originally from the Seattle area but spent time working at Winter Park has been the Burton Academy Director there the past few years.  He's in some of the AASI-PSIA terrain park safety videos too.  Chris has been on a TV program a time or two also.  We were watching a snowboard program on the TV in the locker room one morning - and there he was.   Northstar makes perfect sense for Shaun.  But he does spend time on the glacier at Mt Hood in summer.

Another ex-Winter Park co-worker is interviewing at Northstar tomorrow morning - Monday.  She's at Heavenly right now.
