Another Newbee with the same old quesiton: I’ve narrowed it down but still need help with the final decision.
Me – Tree Stump looking 5’7” 245 lbs, 47, & an ok level 6 skier looking to spend a lot more time off trail this coming year. Up until last year I was on Volkl ac 30’s and stuck strictly to the groomed runs. Last year I went wider with the Rossi sc87 and still enjoyed groomed runs and started to venture off trail. I found that skiing in an inch or two of fresh snow was fun and that the skis were playful. Anything more than two inches of fresh snow and I’d bury the tips, face plant, & yard sale. As I am the shape and size of a tree stump I have no expectations of ‘floating’ on powder so I would like something wider and stiffer to plow through it.
I am looking to stay at 180 in length and a width in mid 90’s as I still need to be able to follow the wife and kids on the groomers amongst the hordes of snow plowers but duck off trail whenever I get the chance. I’ve been looking at the Dynastar sultan 94’s, fischer watea 94’s, & atomic savage ti. The local ski tech suggested going to the mantra and I’d grow into them and be happy forever. Am I on the right track with these selections?
