First Speedriding/Speedflying School in California

Thread Starter

I just stumbled upon this site, and have to say it looks like the ultimate crossover sport.

I did some research into it and the initial training is in Southern California, then they go up to the Sierras for the course completion. I am definitely going to enroll.

Curious to know if anybody here has experience or knowledge of this.

Is this different from kiteskiing? (which, btw, I'd love to see happening out this way.)

Kiteskiing you use a traction kite to pull you.  You can catch air, but you don't actually fly.

Speedflying you use a small paraglider and fly.  I've done three tandem flights on a paraglider off of Aspen Mountain and it's incredibly fun.

My flights were very mellow compared to that speedflying Wengen video.   We launched just after dawn on a very calm day off of Walsh's and within a few seconds your 3000ft above the valley floor.

Speedflying looks a little intense and not without considerable risk.
