staying in St. Foy for one week

My ski buddy and I booked a trip to St. Foy, France for one week.  Has anyone on this forum skied St. Foy before? What is your opinion of this place as a base to ski other areas?

I hear good things. Check out the writeup here: http://www.wheretoskiandsnowboard.com/resorts/SteFoyTarentaise/.

If it were me, I'd stay there and not ski elsewhere. Sounds like a great place for offpiste free of crowds.

I stayed there couple of times before. It was small and did not have as many tourist/visitors as its neighbour - Tignes and Val d'isere, so it was fairly quiet and very nice. It is where the ski patrols/instructors from Tignes and Val'd'isere go skiing when they have a day off.

Unfortunately, it becomes popular in recent years, with more chalets, holiday homes and Ste Foy becomes crowded.

In any case, if you get bored, you can always drive to Val d'isere or Tignes for a day trip.

I stayed there once (catered chalet)  a few years back and would go again.  Local skiing is very good and on powder days you'll have a chance for fresh snow all day long.  Good base to explore neighboring areas.  After a day or so at Ste Foy, you'll want to explore other areas.  Local guides are very good if you're looking to go off piste or tour.  They can hook you up with heli skiing over the border in Italy.

I lived a full season in Bourg St Maurice, but am embarrassed to say I didn't make it over to St Foy despite hearing similar comments as those above...I would give Les Arcs a try also.  Probably closest to go to Villaroger and take the lifts up from there.

I've only ever heard good things from friends who have been to Ste Foy.  They said as long as you're not planning on hitting the bars and clubs every evening you'll be fine.  Mind you having said that other resorts with livelier apres are only about 30 minutes drive.
