First post and have learned much from these forums. Just started last year but am already intermediate / advanced (skiing blacks no problem). I learned on a pair of scrappy used Rossi Edge 180 skis and would like to take it up a level. I have some decent Lange FR80 freeride boots.
I am on the East Coast (CT), and will probably only ski CT and maybe MA and VT this year. This winter I'll be 6' 2", 42 and probably around 220 LBs
Basically would like a versatile all-mountain ski that can do moguls, 80/20 on-piste, easy to carve, and smooth on the straights...fast but not flames out of my backside.
I don't want to spend much, so I'm going off of what galactic and some of the liquidators have in stock.
Looking at the Rossi Phantom SC 74, Phantom SC 80 , Salomon X-Wing 700 and 800. I guess major difference is the waist width--I probably won't see much powder, but would certainly like to try it. I expect will mostly be EC hard pack, though. Not sure if I should go slim or slightly wider. Not sure between Salomon vs Rossi. I do like the Edge skis, although I am sure they are an older very basic ski
Any recommendations on the above and which length? Some of the instructors and good skiers I met said the 180's were too long, but everything I have read points toward 175+. Maybe a 170 would be better for moguls? Also not tied to any one brand, though for some reason I lean toward Rossi's....
Many thanks in advance for your advice
