How much do GS skis improve year to year?

GS skis seem to be pretty similiar each year in sidecut. Several companies are producing the same skis as last year with little or no changes. While massive inovation seems to be happening on the slalom side, are the GS skis really getting noticeably better each and every year? Or, could a typical masters racer walk ski on 1 or 2 year-old GS boards without significant penalty? This isn't really a technical question regarding any one ski, but more of a general question I was wondering about.

IMHO I would suggest that in general a masters racer would perform pretty much the same on a brnad-new 1-2 year old ski (if you know what I mean) as a brand-new latest release.

In a period where there are no radical changes to skis coming to market I wouldn't think your average racer would perform much differently. There must be a point however, where small changes add up to represent a significant change, at which point there would be a performance discrepancy between old and new.
