My lease is up the end of Aug and and I am really considering just dropping everything, quitting my job as a financial analyst in new jersey that I HATE and moving west. I know it would be fairly ballsy to do this without haveing a job of place to stay lined up, but that is how I work. I have a couple bucks saved up, around 10k so I wont starve immedietly. If I dont do it now I wont ever do it, and if i plan it and think about it too much I will talk myself out of it.
I have a degree in finance but I would prefer to not work in an office or do anything remotely related to that field. I would like to find a job in a ski shop or on the moutain, actually doing something instead of sitting in a cube all day hitting buttons on a computer like a monkey. I realize the draw back to this is dollars, but I think if i find reasonable housing ie under 500 a month I will be able to make it work for atleast one season.
I was considering the vail /beaver creek area mainly because it is the only place I have skied out west in my adult life(I have been to breckenridge and copper as a kid), and there is a Juijitsu/ mix martial arts school in the area which is a hobbie I am very fond of. My uncle also lives outside of colorado springs so that is another reason I am leaning towards colorado.
My question is how is vail for a ski bum town. I know it can be very expensive, the clientel can be uppity, rich and materialistic, which is something I am trying to escape here in New Jersey. Everyone is excessively concerned with money back east. Dont get me wrong I like the things money can buy for me and I understand it necessity but it does not outline my life and I am really looking for a different culture and attitude. I have a concern that vail is not really a skiers town or moutain, even though it has such a vas array of terrain. Am I wrong in thinking this? Any thoughts that you have would be greatly appreciated.
