Salomon X Wave 9 flex rivet

Found myself a pair of x wave 9's pretty cheap and was told I can put in the flex rivet the 10's and Course boots have to stiffen flex in the boots. Any suggestions on how this may be done without damaging the boot?

Dunno, but I certainly plan on having my X-Wave 9's stiffened, considerably. I'll take them to a shop. It's great Salomon have a proprietry way of doing it, but I believe any boot can be fixed this way. (My achilles tendons are very excited about this).

The X-wave 10 (Crossmax 10) boot just has 2 rivets on the back of the boot where the hinge for the upper is located. It is basically 2 screws that hold the hinge tight-remove the bolts and the hinge has a free range of flex. I would think that you could drill 2 holes in the X-wave 9 at the same point the holes are located in the X-wave 10, put a threaded insert inside, add your screw, and you will have stiffened the boot. Go see an X-wave 10 in your size and take some measurements as to where the hole is located, or see a good bootfitter who does modifications-it seems like it would take all of 15 minutes, provided he has the threaded inserts.

Just use T-nuts (or threaded inserts to some). I believe the 9 already has little circles marked on the shell for the exact location of the holes. With the tnuts I usually cut most of the little prongs off, they'll still hold enough not to turn. A 3/16 hole should be enough. You may have to trim down the depth of the screw or tnut or both.

Just curious, why didn't you buy the 10?

I'm cheap and the 10's cost a hundred more.....the hinge does have the hole location marked and the t-nut idea will work I was just concerned about the cuff canting and whether i needed to be careful what I did here...will prob take them to Superior Ski here at Snowbird and let Steve take care of me seeing as I have that 100 bucks I saved....Thanks everyone
