SkiLogik is very generously creating, making, and donating a special "EpicSki" that we're going to use in a contest next season. Being that the ski is a one-off, we have the opportunity to give the community some input into the ski's design. Because time is a concern,  we're only running this poll for the next five days. The ski itself will be Ullr's Chariot:

Here are the two options -- please be aware that these will be rendered in different wood veneers, so the choice is basically dark on light or light on dark woods, with blue mother of pearl eyes:

1. Dark tiger, light background

2. Light tiger, dark background

I like #1. I usually prefer darker colors, but the tiger and his blue eyes seem to pop more and have more impact with picture number one imo.

Same here. I still think it would be so much better with a bigger EpicSki logo/style integration. Topsheet contest would be interesting here.

For some reason the light tiger (option 2) seems to show the flow of the design better. I didn't even notice the blue eyes on either version until tylrwnzl mentioned it.

I agree that what needs more 'pop' is the epicski logo. I'm not sure how to make that happen design-wise, though.

I didn't notice the eyes either, but to me it'll be easier to FIND the darker ski in the snow than the lighter one.

These are cool graphics, and thank you Ski Logic.

Too bad it couldn't be a bear.

I like #2.

#2, please.  I reckon the pic doesn't do the real thing justice; you ought to be able to see the wood grain nicely in either one, but the EpicSki logo seems to 'go' better with the dark one.

The blue eye is mother of pearl, if I remember right.  Each of the 13 or so standard patterns have a MoP highlight somewhere, very pretty.  These would be skis that wouldn't ever get tossed or sold; hang 'em up in the house when they're used up...

Fixed it -- thanks, FTM.

Maybe switch the locations of the ski company and Epic?

I prefer #2 - dark background with light graphic.

Go with option 2 with the dark background for this reason:

At some point every ski is retired  when the owner is done skiing with it. Ski Logiks will end up on a wall in a home or office sans bindings (they are too good looking to toss away).  It is easier to fix and hide dark scratches than light scratches using stain sticks found in any hardware store. Most impact to the veneer comes on the top edge from the skis hitting each other skiing.  Therefore, stick with the dark background and the lucky owner will have a better looking piece of art when he/she is done with the skis.  Then again, how can you not like either one (see below)?

I imagine this is close to the colors of the veneers you are getting:

FWIW, I have a pair of skis manufactured by Ski Logik and the durability of the clear iron top is surprisingly very good.

I looked at the whole line of Ski Logic skis at the SIA show and every model whether dark or light was a work of art.  It almost seems like they should be mounted on the wall rather than scarred up skiing.  I am excited to see the finished EpicSki.

I like #2.  I'm with Sibhusky - it will be easier to find the dark one after my yard sale.

And/or if it comes off at all at Whitefish, if it's as &%##$%@@%%% foggy as it was this year when I was there!

OMG.............how do I get my hands on a 188?eek.gif

That's not fog, it's low-flying clouds.  biggrin.gif

Stay off Toni, Inspo, the Bowl, and maybe Moe-Mentum and you'll be fine.  I wish I personally believed it, but my daughter tells me to "ski with my FEET and not my eyes".  ....Easy for her to say....  But if you pick your trails right it's much easier.  Keep to the side of the trail with more tree shadows on the snow.  The trees help with judging slope and the shadows help with surface texture.  Which is why there is such a huge amount of tree skiing here.
