I am very much looking forward to the actual playing....Congressional looks just superb. Missing is the traditional killer rough and the pro's are actually stating it's a fair test.
There is nothing like the US Open to establish who is the best as the course conditions are so demanding. I've always liked that it is played on Father's Day weekend as there is such a strong link between players and their fathers, that's my history as my Dad had me swinging a club as a youngster.
With respect to Tiger and Steve Williams, I've often wondered about their financial deal......does Tiger pay the reported traditional 10%, or, are there other financial agreement. Both Butch Harmon and Hank Haney are on record as stating their fees from Tiger were minimal (although their business benefited from the relationship). My guess is that there is a salary and financial incentive based on winnings, as, I find it difficult to believe a tour caddie for a top player makes in excess of $500k per year. Not having Tiger sure changes the reporting of the tourney, and, the buzz he created at the Masters, with his closing round front nine, electrified the Augusta crowd. Will we ever see that again? What would happen if Adam Scott and Stevie actually win? Does anybody really believe Stevie never knew about Tiger's "relationships"?
In two years, the Open comes to Philly at Merion. My plan is to do as Rusty and volunteer.
Come on Steve Stricker, go Bubba! Which Phil will show up? This weekend gets planned around the tourney TV.
