Well, the drive up was beautiful yesterday, before the next wave rolled in ...

Hopefully our friends up there today will take some more (and higher-quality) photos ... 21" in the past 3 days ... not exactly epic, but (once again) it is May ...

Um, I need to move.

Very nice.  I just back from riding a metric century in the Buena Vista Bike Fest.  It goes from Buena Vista to Leadville.  The full century route had to be diverted from around Turquoise Lake to the top of Tennessee Pass because they couldn't get the road plowed out.  The weather was pretty tough for a bike ride:  temps in the low 40's, 30 mph headwinds to Leadville (the uphill part), and snow and rain from Leadville on.  I couldn't ride the full century this year because of my rehab from ACL surgery 7 weeks ago.  The return was pretty sweet, but not sufficient to cause my buddy and I to think about permanently scratching this ride.  It's not that tough physically (well, it was a stretch for me as I've only done 2 rides this year over 2 hours), but it was mentally brutal because of the wind, cold, snow, and rain.

All of this is by way of saying that it is still snowing in the CO high country.  There were snow squalls all day long that we watched (well when we weren't focused on keeping the bike moving forward into the wind) over the Collegiates.  There ought to be some great skiing up there as long as the avi conditions are reasonable.

Enjoy.

Mike

Thanks for sharing, seg. I can't believe you're still getting turns like this in May - even if they aren't so Epic.

So what do you do for a job now?

Fortunately my wife wants to move to Breck also!  In March we bought another timeshare to ease the pain in the interim.

In the past we would go to A-Basin over Memorial Day but for the past few years I have had a conference for work at that time. This year it is in Montreal - probably no spring skiing there. frown.gifAlthough next year it is rumored to be in Vienna! smile.gif

Here is the lovely kind of weather we have here -- my sister lives out in the country and took this pic yesterday from her front porch. By the time she went in to get her camera the tornado was going back into the clouds. We had hail at our house.

Perhaps I shouldn't be so casual about it, because it was a long road to get where I am, but I made the move last October.  I work at Start Haus in the winter, have some other supplemental work I do on the side and am working for Snowind Sports during the summer.

I'm truly living the life of a ski bum but it suits me well.

The one thing I really love is that I'm in my mid 40's and I really appreciate how blessed I am to be where I am, and what I'm doing!  Pinch Me!  My home mountain is Northstar!

It was foggy, misty this morning at the Basin but the vis never got really bad.  Another 3" new and everything skiing like Feb. By 1pm the sun broke out, temps rose (read I was way overdressed) and the snow changed to a nice spring corn. It looks like tomorrow will be the first bluebird day in weeks. Hope this never ends.

New A-Basin Update

There has been so much snow this year, 464" year-to-date, that we have decided to extend our season. A-Basin will remain open seven days a week through June 5 and will reopen for summer skiing for at least two three-day weekends - Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays June 10, 11 and 12 and June 17, 18 and 19.

Grumble, grumble, grumble.

Hmmm . . . maybe I can "stop by" CO on my way out to CA in July. biggrin.gif

What's really crazy about these resorts is that they're staying open because of two reasons.....

Snow levels

Skier traffic.

Normally, even if they have snow, the skiers stop coming out.  I'd say the colder temps, snow conditions and general winter feel of spring this year has kept people interested.

It was dumping as I walked my dog - lots of fresh, creamy snow just waiting for those willing to work a little!  ;-)

Yea, by 2:30 the lower mtn was really nice. Ramrod bumps were especially good.
