My trusty pickup is in its death throes; the tranny needs replacing, it requires new ball joints and an A/C compressor. A simple bare wire nearly torched the poor thing in the front lawn of a fellow Bear's house. The repairs currently exceed the resale value of my '99 GMC.
So, I have been shopping for a replacement, with an eye on something suitable for taking to the ski hill, assuming I can find a kindly local who will tell me which way it is. I prefer stick shift; I grew up with it, I feel more connected when I am driving one. It used to be all you could get. There was a time when four-on-the-floor was newfangled, a bold move from three-on-the-tree.
A search of a local Subie dealer (out of 93 in stock) revealed precisely TWO cars equipped with manual. Inconceivable! I then did a general local area search for used; 1262 automatic, 79 stick. Grim news indeed. The only good thing to come from this 'revolution' is that gapers like myself can now drive to the ski hill with skis already cradled in arm, no need to reach down to shift...
Oh, bother. I'll see you all over at the "What are you drinking right now?" thread, first round is on me.
