Mammoth in June...Who's up for it?

Whaddya think? a couple (more) days of skiing in the sun? Flights are cheap into Reno. No need for a rental car, we can fit everyone into the Yukon for a friendly 3 hour jaunt down to Mammoth. I think with enough convincing we could get Bud, 4ster or even Robin Barnes to show us around. Thoughts, who's in?

Pending dates...I might be down for this.  Been 2 years since I made turns at Mammoth.

You're killing me! Don't think I can convince Mr. DSloan on this one . . . Sigh. Oh well. 'Til next season.

Definitely depends on dates, but ... keep me posted ...

Also depends on the looks on the faces of my family when I bring it up ... I gotta read that one carefully ..

eek.gif or  nonono2.gif = not likely

rolleyes.gif = more likely (this is their normal expression when it comes to me, anyway)

yahoo.gif= I should start worrying

Sounds like we have some serious interest. Let us do some quick research to see if FTM's dates work.

But, but, but......Sugar Cube would totally love it and we'd treat her like a queen!!

I would love to make this happen. I'll check airfare once dates are locked in -- should be a lot cheaper from Denver than NYC. :D

How does the week of the 17-23 look for people? I am not sure we can do 5 days, I know we can do 3 (mayyybe 4).

Fly into Reno, flop here then we drive down.

Hmm, will work on this from the L.A. side. We wanted to hit Giant Sequoia this summer but at the rate the snow has fallen and is still falling, that might not happen. So, might as well go skiing instead, right?!

September is usually a great time to ride the flume, although I was caught in a snowstorm up there once in late sept.  I am gonna guess that it won't be that great till July this year.  I has snowed another couple of feet this week in the high country.

I was figuring it would take longer than July for 40 feet of snow to go away. Is it really possible that the trails could be uncovered by July? That would be great. I need to ride some of those places.

The Flume itself is west facing, gets a lot of sun & will lose snow quickly.  The soil (decomposed granite) is so porous that it is ride-able as soon as the snow clears.  Even the loop up to Marlette Pk. should be okay.  Other rides like Mr. Toads which is on a more northern exposure will take longer.

I actually rode a lower elevation ride called Valley View today (SE aspect) & it was fine.

Still tons of snow on all the surrounding peaks though.

& we were skiing knee deep powder yesterday!

This has been a crazy Spring.
