Well it's that time of year again (motorcycles)

A couple of us got out this weekend to enjoy the great May weather and some of the color the coast of California has to provide. Leaving from Sacramento we headed down I-80 and exited on Hwy 12 towards Sonoma and Petaluma. The beautiful green coastal hills and vineyards were very fresh thanks to a wet winter. Passing through Petaluma, we took a left to explore Cheleno Valley Road, and found ourselves amongst a crowd of bicyclists sweating their way up the steep grades. We effortlessly summitted to overlook a pastoral scene of cattle grazing and thin fog off the coast.

And more tempting roads lay ahead.

Lunchtime brought us to Bodega Bay, and Spud Point Crab. so a little chowder was in order. Crab cakes, chowder and crab sandwiches are all good here, but kinda on the expensive side.

Further north up the coast, time to stretch and appreciate the wildflowers.

Finally we arrive at Stewart's Point where we take Skaggs Springs Road 48 miles east to US 101. Skaggs Springs road has no services and starts at the coast as a single lane goat-trail, but ends with perfect long-radius high speed sweepers.

Some roads, follow the land and barely disturb it.

Except for a strand of steel bridge.

But it eventually starts to open up

And eventually turns into wide predicable radius sweepers.

The road back took us over Deer Park, Howell Mtn Rd, Pope Canyon, Knoxville Berryessa and Capell hwy back to home. What a great day.

Winding through a few more miles before getting home. About a 340 mile day. Highlights for me were Cheleno Valley and Skaggs Springs. Hope you get to ride them too.

Great area for biking too. My favorite road bike ride takes in some of those roads.Only fifty miles but its VERY hilly.Start in the town of Cazadero, King Ridge (beautiful views, one lane in places, cows) to Tin Barn to Skaggs Pt., PCH south to Fort Ross, up over Fort Ross Rd (very steep for two miles) back to Cazadero. Did it once when it was 107 degrees on the inland side and shrouded in fog on the coast side! Thanks for posting.

You know we have great biking in this area also ?

Maybe you should head this way , Id go your way but i see you need those funny looking ball things on your heads, so they might toss me in jail or make me walk part of the way.

Funny how you can keep the helmet thread going alll year.

I manage to stay anonymous in the helmet, but it does serve a purpose.  The helmet in the picture below (Shoei RF1000) is a $500 helmet I bought practically unused from a guy who lives in your part of the world (SC).  He quit riding when he was severely injured in a very minor motorcycle accident where he was not wearing his helmet, and as a result has no memory of the event   His bike was barely damaged and in his low-speed get-off he had a brain injury that kept him in the hospital for over a month.  So he sold the bike, and I bought his (unused) helmet for $75.

And, Yeah, I'd love to ride the Carolinas. Some beautiful roads from ocean-front to the mountains.  I am an ATGATT rider and find that when I travel east, the locals in ball caps stop waving when you wear a helmet...morons! rolleyes.gif

I see you traded your bike for a sportier model.  How's it treating you?

I'm liking the new bike.  Sold the cruiser.  I have lost several hundred pounds of motorcycle, and about 20 personal pounds so far.  If I can double the personal, I'll totally feel faster and more ready for next ski season.  It's raining today, so it's off to the gym.

Sold!
