Found: Ultegra 8 speed downtube shifters

I am in immediate need of a Shimano Ultegra 8 speed downtube rear shifter. I know shifters are generally sold in pairs and I will certainly purchase both front and rear, if that is what you prefer.

Thank you,

That's what Ebay is for, but if you send me your address, I might be able to mail you a friction lever that will work just fine.

I agree. But, I have been watching eBay for the last several weeks and have yet to see any 8 speed downtube shifters.

Thank you for your generous offer, I just might take you up on it.

Do you need Ultegra or Shimano compatable? The 105 shifters are the same as the Ultegra, but with a different finish. The old RX100 or DuraAve will work too.

Gonzo & Bad Rat,

Thanks for the suggestions. This is one of those stupid deals where I agreed to sell some things on ebay for a buddy of mine. Silly me, I didn't do the due dilligence that I should have. My friend said that the Ultegra equiped bike was 8 speed; when, in fact, it was seven speed.

To make matters a little worse, the auction has ended and the bike has been shipped. Now, in anticipation of a less than satisfied buyer, I am in search of the "correct" 8 speed shifter(s).

Proof positive, once again, that people create their own problems.

Okay, Inspector, if you're just looking for the 8-speed shifter, then that means that you've already obtained an 8-speed rear derailer and cog...right?

IG, the website I linked has both 7-speed and 8-speed downtube Shimano shifters, as well as Shimano bar-end shifters for 7, 8 and 9 speeds (for those psychocross riders).

and in other news...

I have a 105 rear derailleur from 1991, 7-speed, in excellent condition. I probably put 500 miles on it before swapping it out to 600 (Ultegra predecessor) in hopes that I could get faster shifting (which I didn't). I'd be happy to sell it for dirt cheap. Don't know if that helps any.

IG, I will respond to your PM w/ parts Qs later tonight.

I'm saved!

I received a response to my plea for help and the shifters are on their way. And, I might add, at a very reasonable price.

BadRat & Gonzo,

Yes, I do have an 8 speed derailleur and cassette.

Thank you both,
