Business takes me through SLC monthly and though the resorts have closed I am not yet ready to give in to Summer. I do not mind hiking for my turns but when travelling I have no partner. My next trip puts me in SLC Monday, May 16th. What reasonable and safe options (if any) do I have to ski this time of year? I hear stories of people hiking Alta/Snowbird. I know that when the resort is closed no one has done any avalanche control work. Does skier compaction from the weekend traffic (for example at Snowbird) offer any real protection for hikers from slides or is that just wishful thinking.
