Hmmm... 20 min hike does not sound bad at all... and I do own a beacon.
Sinecure- Ditto... I can point people to plenty of ass-puckering stuff at Squaw too. Layers and dentists are welcome as well. Doesn't mean that we will ski it (well at least I won't;-), sorry, even if the presence of dentists is convenient. But I am a whimp at heart...
I agree 100% with what Bullhorn said regarding the Cat skiing at Kirkwood. You'll be skiing some fun terrain, but 'ass-puckering' is relative.
And also, all the terrain that the Cat serves....you can just hike. Alot of it is just slackcountry that can easily be access by short hikes off the top or just on the other side of the boundary ropes. IMO the cat skiing will be a good option if you want to get on some fun terrain beyond the boundary and you don't own your own beacon, because the guides will provide that for you. If the ass-puckering description is turning you on, there is PLENTY of that to be had inbounds.
If I am around, I would be happy to show some people around. But since I think the gathering is only at Kirkwood for one day, you may just want to spend it exploring the inbounds terrain....there's so much to explore inbounds and you'll be probably get the most bang for your buck that way as far as getting a feel for what the resort can offer with just a single day to see it.
