One of my old favorites!
Are Pre's the same as the Ski?
What make are the ones that the dude makes out of his trailer in Mammoth?
I used to but nothing but K2, 'merican made, but now made in China...sigh...
So it's Rossignol and Volkl now. We tested some Dynastars at demo days and really liked the Legend 94's.
The "best", is completely objective. Snow conditions, experience and personal preference (s)...
XR2's were a great ski!
No, Pre's were also out of Sun Valley, but different guys. They were usually rebadged K2s.
Looks like this might be morphing from "best ski brand" to "any ski brand."
But to not include Atomic or Nordica on the the initial list kind of doomed the entire proposition if you ask me.
So in the category of "any ski brand" was Pre mentioned yet? How 'bout the completely inconsequential ski, "Le Mot?"
I see Philpug nailed "The Ski" already. Is anybody going to go as far back as "Northwood" or even "Dynamic" or "Kneissl?"
How about Spaulding. Just had to love their "numero uno"
K2, that would be "subective," objectively speaking!
Word usage correction over.... used to be a K2 man back in the day of 712s and VO Slaloms and KVC comps (TNC... wasn't that the designation for the GS skis? Had those too (black)).
Who can remember the exact transition point from these straight skis to the - then - "parabolic" skis? I can't. I know K2 supposedly started that...
I think it's nice that people have brand loyalty, but there's so much promiscuity among ski families these days we'd be hard-pressed to sort out the DNA of any contemporary ski. Additionally, the state of ski evolution is such that we'd be equally challenged to find a bad ski these days. Generally it's the pilot and not the plane that deserves that credit.
There's no "best" brand. There are favorites. At the SIA show you can see who the Big Dogs are by the size of their tents and the busyness of their merchants.
LaCroix, RD Coyote, as long as people are piling on.
I don't know why some prickly sort hasn't got into the whole XC, AT, Tele mess with Madshus, Black Diamond, Karhu, G3, Alpina, etc.
Donek makes the only snowboard I kept when I jettisoned by quiver-they make skis, too. So does another snowboard company-Palmer
As for "best skis", this should be an argument for the snowboard MBs only. There's the best ski for you and that's it.
A better argument would be-Chinese skis or not?
Yeah, RD are the bomb, I was skiing my Helidogs today.
Has anyone noticed that Volant is is listed twice in the poll? Surely this is due to their supreme awesomeness.
For the record, I always thought the "feel the thunder" slogan was very poorly applied to the most whisper smooth ride to be found in skis. The brand name Volant though, which means flying, and also quick and nimble, was very well chosen, they ride so soft it feels like riding on clouds sometimes. Pity that Atomic, after purchasing the brand and design, decided to make them only for the ostentatiously wealthy.
For the past 10 years or so I have been on Volkls almost exclusively (Vertigo Motion, AX3 724 Motion, P50 Race SL, Racetiger RC, AC 30) with one side step with Nordica (Hot Rod Nitrous) a couple of years ago. Then early this season I bought a pair of Blizzard SLR Race Mag IQ and later in the season I demo'd a pair of Bushwackers. My position is starting to shift!
My much loved AC 30's might find their way to the swap this fall and a pair of Bushwackers will sneak into the garage. Ironically my very first pair of skis way back in the day were a pair of Blizzard Specials. Almost 40 years later I am back!
I'm all about Volkl, currently have Chopsticks, Walls and Gotamas. In the past have had 3 other pairs of Walls, older Gotamas, V-pros, 6 stars and Racetiger SLs. I have dallied with other brands, mainly Fischer and Armada, but I just like the way Volkls ski.
