Guys-  How do the conditions look for tomorrow?  Is it worth the drive?  It is clear that it wont be the normal mellow sunny and hot spring skiing day... Unofficial says that it will be pretty gnarly...

Unpossible on TGR reported that it started dumping at Squaw at 1:30, and he's now at lake level where it's 34° and snowing.

So looks like Monday is a much better day, right?

Snowing at my house in Reno, wet/heavy snow but snow none the less.

I'm thinking I may go skiing one of these two days.  You lookin' for company on the chair Alex?

It is ice everywhere, just image all the melted snow turned into ice. They are not going to melt based on current temperature. Tomorrow's condition will depend on the amount of  snow accumulation tonight.

Today's condition was really bad (at least for an unexperience boarder.  It was snowing very heavisly, got pretty wet later the day.  It was super icy. Teaching my cousins in the beginner area and it's just like a sheet of ice. Windy, the pellets fly directly to your face *stings*! Super cold! The beginners area was esp scary, flat and icy.

Gold coast was okay, a bit better, but it so seemed that only one run was groomed.

I didn't even dare to head towards shirley lake.

Mountain run.... okay....

But with the amount of good snowboarders and instructors wiping out left and white... I have to be more cautious.. :(

Oh, and my googles... pink iridium A frame Oakley, cannot see a damn thing in this condition. I lost my depth perception.

12" overnight at Squaw... hopefully it's deep enough to not go slamming through it into the ice beneath.  Watch out for those hidden moguls!

I'm holding off until Monday.  Anyone heading out Monday?

I am sorry, but there is a difference between real ice (i.e. Stowe Ice when it it 4' thick and you can read a news paper through it) and ANYTHING that Squaw can dish up this time of year.

Yeah, I know... I'm really still a newbie, that's why when it was sierra cement hard, it's still intimidating for me.  Took a fall and lose my confidence.  But bet you i'll be there July 4th weekend!

A quick report from the regular season closing day on Monday, May 30, 2011.

I had the pleasure of skiing with two lovely ladies, my daughter and Trekchick:

The conditions and the coverage were nothing short of phenomenal for May 30; we had slightly chalky and heavy snow that was not slushy or grabby at all, at times I was even going through some loose fresh patches (I heard that Sunday was a full powder day). The coverage is great, there were no rocks showing and skiing was pretty much top to bottom, with only the very lowest parts of the mountain getting squishy by the time it all ended at 2pm.

Slot had great snow:

Going up the last chair of the season on KT22 (note how good the snow is in the bowl):

People were pelting the chairs with snowballs (a great tradition):

Here is a parting shot of KT22 from the parking lot, note how well it is filled, it is hard to believe it is pretty much summer:

This season has been incredible, starting from the powder days on the opening weekend, the end of December that was just storm after storm (I realized that by January 1 most of my days were on my powder skis, not my regular skis!), then the unexpected spring in January (Junuarysmile.gif), then the snow returned with a vengeance and didn't let up until, well, just about now.  Thanks to everyone for sharing the fun, and of course I am looking forward to the next season.

I am looking forward to the next year.  Until then, beercheer.gif

Great summary, Alex.  I really feel like I missed out.  See you next year.

Alex, it was great meeting up with you again.  I'm especially glad that you brought your little ski buddy.  She's a ton of fun!

We saw Davluri but he was in his last day, get it while you can, mode.  See you next season Dave!

I wished I'd brought my camera yesterday but alas, I only had the iPhone for pics(which didn't come out very well), and I'm happy that Alex got a few shots of the great day.

Seriously?  May 30th?  Really?

Squaw you treated me well.

Even though this isn't what I wanted it to be, I kinda like the silhouette of the father/daughter.
