Not sure where you ski,,since in my country and area skiers do help each other. Skiers do talk about "becoming "better skiers! In fact we have someone video taping everyone coming down a certain slope at a given time ,then at bar we all watch video tape on a huge screen! Great great teaching aid! Free and great "bonding" time!
There is however in many ski resorts the "pecking order" and the lift ritual which goes something like this;
First topic mentioned: Great skiing,,great weather, great conditions, great runs
Second topic : Ski equipment,,,,,,,,best,,, better, most quiver,,,,most recent,,,most radical ( a subtle way to tell other how knowledgeable are or just a blind consumer)
Third topic : Places I skied "just yesterday" ( now the pecking order begins),,, Vail,,,,Tahoe,,,,Russia (next Olympics),,,Tignes, etc,,,,
Fourth topic : Most "extreme" run just did ( now the serious pecking order is in full motion),,,,,
Now if you are really "modern" you will take out your Ipad from jacket and view the run you videotaped just 15 minutes and posted on You Tube for your 5,000 friends on ,,,,,,,,,
My suggestion to you, just watch a good skier, go up with her/him and ask!
The more modest, the more non-technical,,,,,,,the better will that skier be!
Take a ride up with a World Cup racer once, no talking about all the quivers, the resorts, the "extreme" radical moves made. Just comments about; ski feel, ski touch, ski flow, hip action, speed,,,,,
I hope it happens to you once ,,,,,,,,
