09 Volkl Gotama or '11 Line Prophet 100

I've recently owned a pair of volkl mantras which I loved, but have bent one of the skis. Given how easy it was to bend the ski I do not want to get another pair.

I'm looking at the Line Prophet 100 (2011) and the Volkl Gotama 2009 (the pre-rocker gotama). Both are new.

I'm looking for a ski with a similar "go anywhere" performance to the mantra.

How did you bend the Mantra?

probably skiing bumps.....

I would just bend the other one and ski them, they probably ski better bent. Considering how much better the new mantras do at off trail skiing .

Ouch. But I love my Mantras . . . they are 2011s, though. Does that make it any better, Bush?  wink.gif

eh you really should have waited till the 2012 model year.

Let it be known that I see no point in the old mantra for my own skiing but it may work out for alot of people. The new one with tip rocker and softed tail address my issue with it, but the Bonafide is a better ski (and cheaper).

I haven't skied the Gotamas but I did like the Prophets. Someone else must have liked them too, they were stolen out of my car half way through the season.

I skied about 15 days on them last season, all on soft snow, from packed snow to boot-deep pow in Fernie B.C. mostly skinning the slack country..

This season I got maybe 10 days in conditions ranging from hard pack, nasty windblown to soft crud and pow and about 10 on groomers. All in Sweden

I'm 5' 7/155 lbs. I'm an aggresive skier and had them mounted as tele's.

Pros: Agile, easy to ski in trees, nice and light for touring, "poppy" and playful

Cons: Not the most stable ski at speed, edge grip on icy/firm groomers.

All in all, I liked them a lot. Fun, playful ski. Pros make up for cons.

The mantras I bent were the '11 model.

I was doing some side skiing, cut back to the piste, but on the "lip" of the piste there was some hard, icy snow that was covered in powder. I wasn't expecting this and it threw me - but I landed on the back end of my ski, which caused it to bend. The ski repairers I spoke to about it said that it is the metal topsheet in the mantras, becuse they don't have much flex the ski will bend much easier.

So, despite how much I liked the mantra, I don't think I want to go with them again.

Thanks for recommendations for the other skis, I'll check those out too.

I could wait and get the '12 prophet 98s, but the sales at the moment are so good - I can get the '11 prophets for $385. I'm based in Australia so our season is about to start, and the shops here are selling the '12 prophets for $1200+! So I really need some skis, and the sales seem too good to pass up.

After I bent the ski I demo'd some prophets and the goats. I thought the prophets skied very similar to the mantra, which is why I'm looking at them. I was in Japan and the pow was on, so I went and got a more pow ski and didn't spend that much time demoing other stuff. I thought the goats were ok, not totally sold on the amount of rocker in the current model.

Also, how does the Bonafide compare to the Blizzard Argos (which someone else recommended to me)?

I've been looking at the Bonafide, seems to be a good ski with a lot of hype about it.

A few drawbacks though: firstly, the amount of metal in it. Am I going to have the same bend issues as with the mantra?

Secondly, I want it for the Australian/NZ season, which starts in June. I can't find any blizzard stockists in Australia, and the US online stores arn't selling it for a few months.
