It's official, we ar having a drought here in switzerland

Less than 20% of normal rainfall for the last 3 months in switzerland. If we get another winter like this, then a lot of smaller places are going to be in real trouble. We have had some rainfall in the last 24hrs, but if they don't get some consistent, heavy rainfall, the summer is not going to be good.

The last time we had a bad winter, about 4yrs ago, it was followed by a huge winter, with fantastic skiing everywhere, just hope it does that again.

April on 1991 (I believe), I went on a tour of Switzerland with older family.

That winter my friends came back after two trips and never got to ski because of the drought.

Two powder dumps later and I got to ski my brains out.  Lucky for me and I had no intention of skiing since I was "the driver".

It will turn around.

Sorry to hear about the current drought in Switzerland.  20% of normal sounds very extreme.

Let's hope for a change in the pattern so you get some much needed rain.

Here in Utah, we are experiencing greater than normal snowpack.  In fact, some areas are at 150% - 170% of normal.  And while this sounds great for our annual water supply, the immediate danger is flooding.  This spring has been colder/wetter than normal, which is delaying the spring melt and runoff.  If it warms up too quickly now, it could cause big problems for the water management teams controlling the local lakes, streams, and rivers.

This is my first of two years living near the Alps in southern Germany.  December was great.  Went to Lech, Austria, in early December and had two feet of fresh snow and they were doing avalanche control.  Thought I'd have a long and snowy winter.  But ever since early January it's been a slow, painful melt.  Last time I skied was in Chamonix in mid February.  Have been waiting for a rebound but it has not come and doesn't look like it will.  Can only hope that next season will be better.  Need to start making sacrifices to the snow gods.

I've been comforting myself through Alaska's horrible winter with thoughts of how much worse it is in Europe.  I really hope you guys have an epic next couple of years to make up for it.
