I'm going on Friday eve for the pop KL on Saturday, it's part of the speed skiing world cup. Anyone going to be around there? Like to meet up?
Anyone going to Verbier this weekend?

Well, I had a fantastic time. I met several members of the Austrian team, and some key figures in speed skiing - Tracie Max-Sachs, Philippe May, Philippe Billy, Adam Earle, and then spent most of my time and skiing with some of the British speed ski team.
The pop KL race day was great fun. The track is insanely steep at the top, and the ramp that's been built there is only for total nutters. Where the mere mortals start from was rather more manageable. While it's not hugely steep, it goes on and on, so you just get faster and faster. On my first run I managed 138km/h (86mph). On the second, starting from 20m higher, I got a bit nervous which led to a bad start, but I still hit 144.7 (90mph). The marshals didn't like my second start and asked me to do my third run from the first start again, from which I managed 142, a 4km/h improvement from that position. I spent a while talking to a journalist from the Daily Telegraph, who wrote all about me in this article, which contains an edited video that I shot.
It was all very well organised (very Swiss!), a perfect track and glorious weather. If you've not tried speed skiing, I thoroughly recommend it, and I'll definitely return next year.
