Squaw Valley Patrol receives international recognition for rescue

I have to pay my respect and express my gratitude to a great bunch of patrol. They saved my life, and that's no exaggeration.

In an international conference they were recognized in the first position as having accomplished the rescue of the year. a patrol skied up to me the other day and told me: "We received top award for rescuing you!" I was like: "Hell yes!"

The emergency was a Tripple A on top of the mountain. Not an easy diagnosis and treatment.

yes, a thoracic and abdominal aortic dissection caused by two large aneurysms. from patrol arriving to the hospital was about 20 minutes on the mountain and about 15 minutes of helo flight. a few months later, the pilot was at a party that some of my friends were at, and he related the story when someone asked him the highlight of his year. He said to a friend of mine: "your friend is one tough guy!"  I did try to crack a joke or two in the chopper, just before I lost consciousness.
