April Showers (It's Showering SNOW) - Jackson Hole Backcountry 4-7-2011

The weather has gone berserk!

I shoveled more snow from my sidewalk this morning than I have all season.  Spring looks to be weeks away.

We have a winter storm warning out for today through tomorrow.  Here's what NOAA is saying:  SNOWFALL OF 1 TO 2 INCHES AN HOUR IS

POSSIBLE. SOME AREAS IN THE MOUNTAINS MAY SEE OVER THREE FEET OF
SNOW BY LATE FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

A friend and I went skiing on Teton Pass this morning (exact location to remain unidentified).  It was good.

I think we may hit Targhee tomorrow.

Great shots!  I am just seeing this thread, & you are right about the weather being berserk.  It seems like we are skiing powder everyday down here.

My friend Ryan today.

I'm still working on being a ski bum...but thanks for continuing to remind me why its such a great dream and keep making turns for those of us who are stuck in an office this April!  Great stuff.

Question: Why does JH close so early? Even the East is still open

I was going to say it's Tony Crocker's fault, but that is a bit of an inside joke.

The real reason is lack of people.  The East is within day-trip distance of large population centers.

In fact, I wonder -- do any ski areas close in April for lack of snow?  Most of the ones that have to close for snow (think NJ, OH, PA) do it in March, I think.

I suppose a lot of Vermont runs out of snow in late April most of the time, certainly not early to mid April.
