Skiing around Tahoe - January 2011

Went to Tahoe for the first time in mid-January hoping for a great week being it a 'La Nina' winter and all...unfortunately it turned out to be 50+ degrees almost every day with no new snow and bulletproof ice conditions except for the first day or two. It didn't settle well with my buddies and I since the previous year we went to Utah and didn't get any snow there either. Have certainly had some very bad luck with planning since we are all in college and can't go in Feb or March usually. Anyways, I'm still pretty impressed with Squaw and Alpine Meadows and would definitely go back as long I don't go during the January thaw period. I made a 5 min. video of our trip that includes Squaw, Alpine, and some Donner Pass backcountry. Enjoy!

Nice video. I enjoyed watching it.   Looks like pretty good snow for a drought, too.

What drought? It dumped 12 feet after they left. Unless you live here it's all about luck and timing.

That's my point.  But I guess maybe they were there at the beginning of the 6 week "Eastern" period.  There was a ton of snow early and a ton of snow late this year, with a dry center.
