Vail - Holiday Inn

With "Is there any affordable lodging at Vail?" being a perennial question, figured I'd share our recent experience with the Holiday Inn...

Got stuck with the I-70 road closure Sunday. (too badbeercheer.gif)

Got lucky and found a room at the Holiday Inn in West Vail. It was $109 for the night for a double room. (lower season/normally $156). Either price is very good for Vail. They had a great shuttle that ran promptly  to Lionshead and Vail Village every 30 minutes all day until 9 ish in the evening, so no parking issues. The room was very nice with a good beds, good pillows and all expected appointments including a mini-fridge. Pool etc looked clean and nice (although we did not partake) and the lobby and general atmosphere of the place was quite nice.

Good score.  I think I got a decent deal at Vail too, I got a room at the Lionshead Marrott for $129/night (writing this post from the room).  When I arrived (as luck would have it and availability I suppose), they upgraded me to a deluxe room with a couch sitting area, fireplace and a view of the mountain.

In hindsight,I should have played a powerball ticket....3 hours earlier Hertz rent a car upgraded me to a Chevy Tahoe for $21/per day.

I guess it all depends on what you want and what time of year it is....
