If you use the "classic" skin to view EpicSki, I invite you to please post in this thread. We have an opportunity to make a bunch of members and Supporters happy by giving them a user-option to define the width of the column for viewing forum posts, so they won't have a problem with word wrap when they reduce the viewing window below 1024 pixels. The only hitch is, it's going to cost us the Classic skin, which is a pain to maintain for the approximately 18 people who use it.
My question to you is, would you trade your happiness with the Classic skin for the happiness of 10 other people with their viewing window? I'm sorry it's an either-or, but we can't have both. Here's the thread in which our users' pain with the wide post format is well documented. Why the ridiculously wide post format? Other valued members like Ott have stopped using the site because they can't deal with the high resolution, wide format. We would like to have this change, but it comes at a cost.
It has taken nolo a long time and not a little effort to get this concession. They're only doing it for EpicSki (though later other sites will surely follow).
I am a user of the Classic skin as is Bob Barnes, and several of the moderators. As I understand it, fewer than 20 members have this, so that accounts for a good percentage.
If you have never seen it, the Classic Skin is a choice in My Profile / Edit Account Details / Visual Preferences. It is a subdued blue and white skin reminiscent of our old vBulletin look. I changed to Epicski Blue and White a few weeks ago and am surviving the transition. There are very few users of this skin, and it causes a disproportionate amount of time to maintain this as a choice. In order to fix the forum width, that is a problem with more users, I'm proposing to give it up.
Once this change occurs, the option that currently allows us to choose the skin, will be an option to let you look at a a narrower fixed width, or the default width format. I hope this works for our members, and if you are using the "Classic" skin, get out your sunglasses. I find, this is not a problem as long as my eyes are not over dilated by alcohol..and then I shouldn't be posting anyway.
Please advise--and please don't tell us to get both, that's not on the table.
