After reading this thread end to end I decided to give Apex boots a shot. I was lucky enough to get them on demo from my local ski shop south of Montreal. I was very worried about spending that much $$$ on boots and end up with the same old problems, so the demo was an awesome option.
I tried these boots because nothing fit me properly, even after many, many adjustment, from custom foot beds, punches, grinding, all this from a fat foot and a very high arch.
What did I have to loose other that $900 CND? I could not ski more than 2 hours with existing setup.
Skiing in the east means, ice, cold and more ice but on demo day I found a nicely groomed hard packed slope. I did not have to adjust my skiing at all, but it was easy riding conditions. The first couple of runs were, well F’n amazing. I laughed like a little kid.
I skied the whole day and the only small issue was my toes we freezing, not a usual scenario for me. But who knows maybe I could not feel the cold from all the other pain I was experiencing in the past
I usually ware a 26.5, demoed the 27 Apex, as Apex is one size bigger. But cold toes ( think toes were touching end of boots)
I went back to the shop, and bought size 28 Apex MC-X for $900 CND. They offered full refund if I did not like them so why demo again? My alternate was Fischer Vacuum fit for $700 is, so only $200 more !!!
Since that faithful day in early December of 2013 I have skied about 7 times and I love these boots. WHY? Well because I can ski more than 2 hours at a time, and I don’t cry like a little baby with sore feet anymore. I have seen the debates about the prices etc. I am not a rich man (nor a poor / what skier is?) but I tell you this. I think these expensive boots pay for themselves, I no longer waste part of my lift ticket funds holding my feet in the bar watching people ski, now spend less in bar too.
They are awesome, two issues so far, they are very hot, toes cooked! And the second issue, the BOA system would not release one day, had to get buddy to help me pry it open, all good since then. They are guaranteed for life so not worried.
For control: no issues, they go plenty tight enough even for an expert skier on eastern ice. Have not skied pow yet, but will soon.
happy to answer any questions on my experience.
