Epic trip to Big Sky

Was fortunate to get up to Big Sky Montana for 3 great days on the mountain the weekend of 3/5/11 (better late than never for a Trip Report). A close friend of our family has a place within Spanish Peaks, a private area adjacent to Big Sky. In the mornings, you can ski on the few private lifts at Spanish Peaks, then ski into the back side of Big Sky and head right up the Southern Comfort lift before folks coming in the front door can touch the powder. It's hard to imagine asking for much more. Here's the view from where we were staying:

Our favorite runs on the mountain had to be Stump Farm, Snake Pit, Ambush Meadow/Ambush Glade, and of course, heading up the Tram to play in Liberty Bowl. We had about 4 inches of fresh snow while we were there, but as you can see below, we also got some incredibly clear skies for a day...here's a view of the tram heading up to Lone Peak

Once up top, we had incredibly clear skies and could check out the whole resort:

We even got a chance to learn how to really get down a mountain with Nolo and Ridge Hippie though only caught Ridge Hippie with the camera (far left):

The tree runs were absolutely stunning:

and the mild bumps are a lot of fun for an amateur like myself and my cohort on the mountain. I think this was the tail end of Stump Farm:

You can't see it, but I was smiling the whole time:

That was a fun day. Ted will enjoy a ton of new snow when he arrives this weekend.
