Ski Technique

post #1 of 2

I used to be  ski racer, but now I just do recreational skiing. I am wondering the distance that one should have their skis apart. In ski racing, we always have our skis quite far apart, which works great on the really fast groomed terrain but isn't as good in the moguls. Do you guys adjust your ski width depending on the terrain, because I find having my skis apart isn't as good on the terrain where you can't completely ride on your edges.

Yes, you should vary your stance width to suit what you are doing.  GS turns on groomed, widen the stance...as you mentioned, bumps (varialble terrain) bring em together.

Wide = stability

Narrow = agility

Good skiers adjust this on the fly.
