Buying skis - Ski shows vs. online retailers?

Hey everyone.

Been creeping on this site since the beginning of the ski season and I love it! The resort reviews are fantastic and helped me plan my trip out west for next season.

Now that I booked a trip to CO, I'm planning on getting some new gear.

I have never been to a ski show but I have been shopping online and there are a seemingly endless number of retailers, including the fine sponsors seen right ---->.

Even still where should I turn for my next equipment purchase? Ski shows or online? What are ski shows like and what kind of deal can I expect to get?

I live in Toronto and therefore will be attending that next season or should I just pull the trigger online?

Thanks

Shipping to Canada can reduce your choices in e-tailers. If you know exactly what you want then keep an eye out for a bargain this summer. Thats prolly you best bet for a bargain. But, that being said you should call around to your local shops over the course of the next month and see what they have to offer. In the end you might pay a bit more but they might toss in the mount for free. It all comes out in the wash.

If you have a good idea of what you want, go see places like Squire Johns on Hwy 26 north of Collingwood and get a good deal for end of the year stock from a good local that has beeen in buisness for 30 years or more.Lots of shops in that area so ya should get a good deal and support a local hill shop.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm familar with Squire Johns. I'll look into that.

Luckily I travel to the states regularly and therefore can bring them back. Has anyone has experience at a ski show with buying skis?

ended up going with dawgcatchings. Got a wicked deal. Can't wait to go out to Jackson Hole with these next Winter.

To me it doesn't matter. I would go with the better deal. I have yet to find that a show.

However, I wouldn't buy another pair of skis that I hadn't tried first. That said, I'm usually working with a shop at that point and if they've been good to me, I try to give them my business.
