Jester Failure?

So I just took delivery of some MX78s off ebay mounted with Jesters. Upon close inspection both heal pieces have small cracks (see photos) not disclosed by seller.  Is this common with Jesters?

Steve, I saw those skis go and thought that was a really great deal. I got a used pair of 78's from another Ebay seller later in the week. They came with Saloman bindings which I am removing to put on a VIST plate since my other skis have that config. If you do not end up using the Jester's and want the Salomon's they are yours, gratis.

David, thanks that's really generous. It was a good deal and I'm guessing I'll take them in to a  Marker dealer and see what they say.

The skis themselves are in great shape.

Not normal and probably dangerous to ski.  They will most likely pass a release test, so the shop might tell you you're fine, but you're not.  After more use the cracks will get bigger and eventually blow (hopefully not when you're clicked in).  Maybe try to warranty them, but I wouldn't ski them.

Not good, but not likely dangerous once you are in the binding.  Those cracks are nowhere near your boots while you're clicked into the binding and are most likely to break when you are clicking into the boot, not while you are skiing.

Marker should warranty them, but I don't know if they will since they are on a pair of skis you bought used.  You might want to leave out the used part when you get in touch with them.

The top one looks like it will probably break when being stepped into, but the bottom one I'm not so sure about.  Either way call Marker, but yeah don't tell them you bought them used.

Yeah, you could be right RaceDude.  The cracks are more angled back into the bindings on that one.

Anyone know anything about the construction of the Jester in the area of the cracks?  Is it plastic over metal or just plastic?  I had thought that Jesters were mostly metal, but I may be wrong.

Local shop took them in to return to Marker. He didn't think it would be a problem. Fingers crossed.

Hmm, I have never seen that cup issue with Jesters/Griffons (more w/ older Salomons). Only issue I see is Marker is of of current year Jesters and you might have to wait a bit for 2012 models.

Phil, what sort of an issue with 2011 jesters? I just bought a pair of new jesters today to mount on the mantras and now i'm cautious.

Sorry, I miss-typed, I meant that Marker is OUT of current year jesters and you might have to wait till 2012. No issues with them other than availability, which didn't effect you.

I was supposed to get a call last week if there was a problem getting an RA and shipping them off. No call. They must have some spare parts around to fix these I hope.

You would think Marker would pull a pair back in from a close dealer if they had none in stock themselves. Hum.

Oh I forgot, this is the new Marker. Don't expect anything normal or rational in actions from them to move anyone forward.
