New Skis: clean the base before waxing?

I'm wondering what I should use to clean the bases before waxing these new skis.

I was looking for a light flimsy beginner type ski; got some K2s with bindings, at Sports Authority - $217.00 including tax.

Gonna wax em up and take em to Hunter on Monday.

Use a soft wax (I like BP77, but really any BP or CH8/10 will work) and put it on the ski.  Before the wax dries, scrape it off.  That's what's called doing a "hot scrape" and is the best thing to do when cleaning a ski.  Base cleaner isn't really good for the ski bases unless you're going to stone grind them.  Hot scraping will clean them just fine.

An Excellent product for Base cleaning, prep and conditioning is Dominator Base Renew or Base Renew Graphite (For Black Bases)

For non-black bases too if you don't care about black spots on non black skis.  The graphite is better than the non graphite.  I use the graphite on all my skis and the white, blue and green bases look dirty.

Can't find my scraper. It's been floating around the house all season, now I can't find it.

I'll just have to use an infusion of Dr Bronner's soap and chamomile tea.

I gotta admit. I use black, since all my skis have black bases!~biggrin.gif
