Ok with only a softshell for Alta/Park City

Headed out for a week in Utah.  For a variety of reasons, I want/need to pack light, so I'm considering only bringing a softshell, and leaving the hardshell at home.  The softshell is a heavyweight skiing one (Patagonia White Smoke), not a fall hiking one.  It has a hood, powder skirt, etc.  The hardshell I could bring would be an Arcteryx Sidewinder SV (full Goretex pro).

The only times I break out the hardshell is heavy rain, or extremely cold temps with high wind.  I'm hoping I won't run into either.  90% of my skiing is done in the softshell.

Think I'm safe leaving the GoreTex at home?

you'll be fine.

If you usually ski in New England in a softshell than you'll likely be fine in Utah.  I've never been there when it was bitter cold and I'm usually there in late February,  Probably want to check the weahter forecast to see if there is unusually cold weather.  Then again, if it is warm enough to rain......

"you'll be fine": I agree.

I have the same jacket and skied 75 days last year and 40 days so far this year in Utah and only ever needed a full waterproof jacket once.

Leave the goretex at home.

I say bring the Hardshell, that way you won't need it.  Like carrying an umbrella...it won't rain. Have fun.
