New Blizzard SL Magnesium - Deciphering the code?

On the tail of my brand, spanking new Blizzard SL Mags I have the following:

"10/ 2484"

Both skis have this.  Is this flex?  I have no idea...thoughts?

serial number?

No, it has the typical serial number on the sidewall.  I'm thinking it is a flex rating to pair up skis...but really I'm clueless.  I've got them and a pair of Marker Comp 20 sitting in the corner.  Thinking whther to sell or ski?

The code doesn't really mean anything at all... The 10 means that it was produced in 2010
And the 2484 means that it was the 2484 pair of 165 SL skis (I'm assuming they're 165s) produced that year. Don't really know why they have that and a serial number, I think it's so the factory can track stuff just in case there is a quality control problem or something. It's on all Blizzard and Nordica race skis. Used to be only on the Blizzard WC skis but then two or three years ago they started putting it On all the race stock skis. Has nothing to do with flex. Mount them and enjoy the best SL skis on earth. Up until this year the WC guys were using the exact same sidecut as the regular race stock skis.

Thanks for the info..  I skied Nordica WC SL and loved them but bent the tail of one ski.  Felt bad not going back to Nordica but got a great deal on these.

I'm glad to hear that you think they are great skis.  I hate leaving a ski but couldn't find a pair of nordicas within $200 bucks of these.  The funny thing, and I live in an area with a lot of ggod mid-western racers, is that a lot of the coaches and better skiers ski these Blizzards but they really haven't caught on with the HS racers who all seem to be on Volkls or Fischers.  Unlike other parts, where Heads and atomics dominate, most are on Racetigers and the hole skis.

I think it has to do a lot with the reps and what shops push 'em.

Hexagenia, did you get to try the Blizzard SL Mags? How do they compare to the Nordica WC SLRs? I too have a pair of Nordica SLRs [2008-9 model; VIST plate], but got a pair of Blizzards at a good deal [165 cm, we are talking about]. They are still in wraps and I am hesitant to mount them. I so much like the Nordicas and I don't know how the Blizzards will compare. Any info will be much appreciated!

PS: The one thing I can see, regarding the side-cut, is that the tails and waists are pretty much the same, but the shovel of the Blizzards is a bit narrower - maybe 2-3 mm. I also notice that the mounting point [on the piston plate] is about 1.5-2 cm forward compared to the Nordica [305 mm shell, aligned boot center over manufacturer's center mark]. No idea how these two factors combine!

Thanks!

the thread may be old according to the calendar police smile.gif but the question is still valid.  You will not be disappointed with the Blizzard WC sl.  You dont say whether you have the 2011 or the 2012.  I suspect the 2011 since the 2012 has a slightly wider shovel .  IMHO the Blizzard actually works better with the marker plate than it did with the Vist plate which it had in the 2009 and 2010 versions.  the old Blizzard vist plate is not dissimilar to the Nordy plate.  I have owned the 08 Nordica and the 10, 11 and 12 blizzard and the 11 and 12 Blizzards are up there in the top tier of slalom skis, you will find it every bit as good as the Nordica if not better. i personally still prefer the rossi/dynastar as the best race stock slalom at the moment but the Blizzard is close behind.

ScotsSkier - thanks a lot! I have the "2011" Blizzards - they have a stamp like "10/nnnn" on their tails, so I assume they were manufactured in 2010.

One more set of related questions, if I may - regarding binding mounting on the modified Marker piston plate that the 2011 Blizzard SLs come with:

(1) Which set of holes do I use for the toe-piece - there are three positions. My boot soles are 305 mm. In the older Marker plates, this would place me in the rear-most set of holes, I believe. Is this still the case here?

(2) Lifter plates: is there any "typical/recommended" setup for SL? Obviously this is somewhat personal, if you know exactly what you want, but I ... oh well :-)

Thanks for any info, as usual!
