Yes, we definitely could use more ambassadors. We'll be doing a flashy promo to recruit more ambassadors soon, but if you want to get in before the push, please PM me.

I didn't go through official channels, either. It'll be interesting when Epic contacts them.

We don't necessarily want Ambassadors that come through "official channels." This is a community service first and foremost. It's no different than our gear pages and reviews. Most manufacturers appreciate the buzz. We anticipate a similar response from resort marketing folks.
post #38 of 5110/13/11 at 11:27amAny benefits to this program? I understand you're looking for volunteers, but if you're working through resort marketing departments, shouldn't there at least be a few free lift tickets involved?
It seems like you're asking for a decent amount of work that adds value/profit to Epic without really offering anything in return. Insider guides seem to have the potential to draw a lot of reader interest (advertising eyeballs). Not to stir the pot; I guess it's just a pet peeve of mine.

You get comped one year of supporter membership and some swag. (Already have been given a very nice black vest emblazoned with the Epic Ski logo)

Since each resort is going to have their own, individual reaction to this, I think only Epic can provide any "consistency". So, some of us will get just the membership and vest from Epic, some will get a free t-shirt or something, some will get a season pass, and for all I know, some will get a cease and desist order

What exactly does "supporter" membership mean?

I don't think we should be demanding things like lift tickets. After all, we are supposed to be objective observers operating FOR EPIC, not for the resort. If we happen to benefit the resort, it should be the resort's prerogative to decide we deserve kudos. As it is, I'm already on the resort's mailing list and read all their press releases, so Nolo doesn't have to ask for that for me. And I already have a season pass, so a couple of day passes buys me exactly zilch. I would imagine a good portion of the ambassadors have season passes, so it's the same for them. Naturally, I'd love it to be comped, but I'm not going to go antagonizing them ASKING FOR ONE. It's not like they asked me to do this, and they DO have people whose job is to market the place already, so if anything I'm horning in on their territory.
There is a thread somewhere about the perks of being a site supporter, I'll let Nolo provide that link or you can find it by clicking in the upper left of the page.

You can click here to put yourself on the list. I will be sure we pick up those Ambassadors who did not put themselves on the list too. It's an adjustable one size cap, classic, garment-dyed black which will fade gray with the vintage EpicSki logo. I hope to get a sample soon so we can all see what it looks like.

I'm lovin' the vest. We were up in the Sierra today touring the fall colors around Tahoe, and the vest was just right. And we get questions, "what is Epicski"?

The vest rules, really fits well. Did someone say ball cap?

I wasn't demanding anything, merely asking a question. I'm not even an ambassador, was just interested in it.
I think you're misunderstanding, though. Resorts give out lift tickets to writers, editors, photogs, and other objective observers that visit and cover the resort, just like what you're doing here. It's basically free advertising for the resort, so the $100 or whatever is well spent. Many resorts have a media section right on their website that outlines how to get these tickets, nothing illicit about it. Considering that the ambassadors here are writing intensive guides beyond what an average magazine article covers, I don't see why a resort wouldn't offer these tickets. As for season passes, I'm sure not every ambassador has one. I could be an ambassador for several resorts, none of which I have a pass to.
As for Nolo contacting them, you'd need to show some kind of proof that you're actually working on behalf of Epic. The easiest way to do that would be to just have him put it in the initial email, since he works here and is contacting them anyway.
My issue with stuff like this is simply that unless Epic is a non-profit, it's making some type of money from the site--or at least adding value to the site. Just look at the advertisements, sponsorship opportunities, etc. all over. Adding as deep of content as what the ambassador program seems to involve is basically adding significant value to the site (a bunch of insider guides to resorts is a pretty intriguing aspect of any website). So I was just wondering if there are any type of perks exchange for that value. It seems like the sponsor deal offers some solid perks, and it seems like ambassadors are happy.
