Does Whistler have good deals on gear Mid-march?

Thread Starter

going to Whistler mid-march for the first time.  I need a helmet, goggles, and a good ski jacket (I have one, but it's not great).  I was wondering if I should hustle to get it here in Toronto Ontario, or get it at Whistler.  I'd imagine their end-of-winter sale will be on soon.

Any advice?

Thanks!

The stores in Toronto are in a bigger hurry to clear out their skiing inventory. The only thing usually better on mountain is if you want to buy end of season demo skis. But they may not even be selling those yet.

There were no great sales last week, that's for sure. Fanatyko was still looking for full sticker for the Kastle 94's and bindings I was potentially interested in (even being a many time repeat customer), so I trust you'll do far better in TO. Too many Japanese tourists willing to pay full sticker to get a good deal.

Shop in Toronto. Or spend a shopping day in Vancouver. Your money will go farther.

Don't buy anything in Whistler unless you must.  There is a heavy glitz markup.  I was up there a few years ago and I was interested in possibly demoing some Elans.  I found a shop that carried them, but I ended up being more interested in a pair of Fischers that the guy in the shop was pushing.  They were demos and it was April so he wanted to move them on.  He was going to give me a super deal!  Only $1088 with bindings!  I passed on spending over a K on used skis and on the way home we dropped off some poles we rented, having broken one the day before we left.  In the shop were an identical pair of skis to the ones I looked at in Whistler on sale, new, for $300.  With bindings and tax I got out for less than $450.

Buy in the big city, it'll be a much better deal.

Stop in Vancouver if you can on the way up, you will find better sales, the shops in Whistler are not in as much of a hurry to move inventory until closer to the stat of bike season.
