Gear recommendations?

Thread Starter

I've been out of the ski scene for quite a while. To give you an idea, the last time I skied, rear-entry boots in flourescent colours were all the rage ;)

I'd really like to get back into it, and things seem to have changed a bit in the last 20 years.

Here's some info: I'm just outside of Seattle, and will be frequenting Snoqualmie Summit 99.9% of the time (since it's only about 25 mins from my house). For those of you not familiar with it, it's usually either icy or slushy. I don't do bumps or backcountry; I prefer cruising on groomers, and I can't really see that changing anytime soon. I'm 6' 195lbs, with somewhat difficult feet: wide toe-box and narrow heel.

I was looking at the Dynastar Legend Sultan 80 (or 85, can't remember exactly) skis and the Nordica Hot Rod 75 boots at REI. Both seemed like they'd fit the bill... Anyone have any other suggestions or comments on this combo?

Welcome to Epic.  I suggest you go to the "Ask the Boot Guys" forum and read the wikis about terminology and fitting.  Then check the list of fitters and see who might be near you.  If there is nobody listed close to you, ask and I'm sure someone can recommend a good fitter.  Once you locate a fitter, make an appointment and go to them to get boots.  Boots are the most important investment you'll make in ski gear and you need boots that fit your feet correctly.  I like REI but I seriously doubt they have an experienced boot fitter in any of their stores.
