volkl gotama riders: do you prefer the new version with ELP or not necessarily a major change in ride?

I'm just wondering as a 2008 (gold coloured) pair for $350 has been offered to me in supposedly 'mint' condition...but like many of us here wanting the 'latest and greatest' I wonder if looking for the newer ELP equipped version really does make a difference in the deeper snow/crud etc.

the ones being offered are 168cm length

...i stand 167 cm and weigh a chunky 170lb...am an spiring intermediate.

the new ELP is superior in powder skiing and even tight hardpack skiing but kinda of sucks on groomers. Their are better skis out their and I probably would pay 350 for an old but new Gotama.

If you can find a new bridge I think youd be really happy with it, than either the new or old gotama.

Those gold Gotama's were awesome. I'd offer $2-300, and see if he'll take that. I ended up buying the newer ones with the ELP. I love them too, but the gold ones did seem a bit better on the groomers. Despite not having any rocker, though, the older gold Got's seemed to have plenty of float in the deep powder. I had a blast on them.

I'm a fan of the old Goats too (I own the Gold ones).  I agree that the new one will be better in deeper snow, but I didn't find it as versatile as the old ones.  I agree on a bit lower price (might check out some of the pricing on TGR for reference).

I have a pair of the Golden Chinese Goats. Used 'em nearly every day for a couple seasons. Lov 'em, don't ski them that much anymore... but I'm keeping them handy. There are somewhat better skis these days for 2' blower days with early rise & rocker. But that's about it. In my humble experience, anyway...

Look on TGR; there was a pair of 183 09 Gotamas (neon/blade runner graphic) for $280 w/bindings, and you could probably make an offer.

To answer your question, if you can get a pair of pre-2010, non-ELP Goats with lots of life for around $200-250, you're going to be happy and have $200 extra for bindings/mount.  I had the white ones and was very happy with them.

forgot to mention: they've been skiied 20x...supposedly mint base/edges and come with Rossignol Axial2 Ti bindings....so far have gotten him down to $350.
