Other than simplicity, what's the advantage to this type of kite vs the kites on string/wire that people have been using on snow and water for several years?

I'm guessing:

lack of entanglement

kite sits in ground effect

easier to read winds

can apply torque to pivot kite independently of wind lift.

Kind of looks like the Wind Weapon that was around the Gorge, in the late 80's.

Great to see someone offering them up here! Which mountains allow these? Particularly interested in Canadian mountains.

Aren't these a little more universal too. From what I know of snowkiting, you need multiple kites to get after it on any given day. This looks more like buy one and done.

Question...how much wind is needed to "fly"?

This puts a whole new perspective on up unweighting during a turn.  biggrin.gif

Racer: Question...how much wind is needed to "fly"?

I am no expert in this thing, but lift is created by your speed, so no wind should be fine.
