I bought a pair of new Rossignol S7s (from Start Haus for $800) and had a local shop mount Marker Baron bindings on them. When I dropped off the skis at the shop, I told the shop employee I wanted them mounted at the "0" point. I even pointed to the 0 written on the edge of the ski. After bringing them home, I noticed that the bindings are mounted at the +5 line. I called the shop and asked how this mistake could have been made. The employee I spoke with said "center mount" was written on the slip and that he had mounted them himself. When I told him the skis will ski like shit at +5 and that I had specifically directed the bindings be mounted at 0, he said he would remount them for me. When I told him I was unhappy that the value of the skis would be diminished due to the second mounting, he said he would not argue with me over the phone.
Assuming this is a professional shop, can I expect them to compensate me for the mistake? I know they will remount them for free, but I feel I deserve more for taking a loss due to their mistake. How should I approach the shop owner when I meet with him? If there are shop owners reading this, I would be interested to hear your view on how you would handle this.
