Winter Returns to the Cascades
Inland NW is getting it's share too. 2 feet at Silver Mt in the last few days.
Anybody make it out today? Stevens went huge with 23" overnight and 32" in the last 24 hours. I was up on Sunday, and am going up tomorrow, but unfortunately was not able to get up today. I bet it was quite the day. Sunday was still really good, snowed all day long. Tomorrow should be nice too.
This is the third week in a row of great powder conditions at Mt. Baker. There was 6" of new today on top of feet accumulated over the last several days. It was cold, light, and wonderful. Whoever says the Cascades don't get real powder should come on out here this week. It's supposed to just keep on coming with new snow of various amounts every day for the foreseeable future.
Those Bears who like to follow the snow had better get moving. The Cascade Mountains is where it's at right now.
Sounds like your snow is in better shape than Stevens. I was up at Stevens today, and it was soft everywhere, but light wasn't the word I'd use to describe it. I'm not sure why the snow set up a little, since the temps were fine. Anyway, if you found untracked, it was very good, but the cut up crud was not the lightest in the world. Still a very fun day, but probably the worst day I've skied in the last week. I guess I'm getting spoiled by the snow the last couple of weeks.
Clearing tonight on the high desert and temps are dropping fast. Should be rather good Wed. getting a VIP tour w/ ski patrol, should be interesting to see ops from the inside. Have fun and be safe folks, ski with a partner. I'll see if I can get a few more photos up this week.
Posuane: sorry, that was vague. I was at Stevens...meant that as a response to jaobrien06. I'm surprised to hear that Stevens was disappointing today given how much snow and the temps. Monday was great just on the shear depth. Got to break in a new pair of Kastle MX108's properly!
We asked for it and we got it, avalanche on Mt Hood, Heather Canyon is closed since March 10th:
It's not over apparently, patrol anticipates another one from the higher ridge...
