This is another sad story.  It happened on the opposite side of the mountain Bridger Bowl is on.

After an 80 mph wind event they were boarding off the top of a ridge down a chute. He was buried under 5 ft. of snow, so it must have been a good size slide.  They had the proper equipment, but it sounds like some unfortunate decisions were made.

This was a terrible and tragic event, but let's hope at least it scares some people into getting educated and being conservative. We should never forget, we are often gambling with our lives out there, so make safe bets.

See wreaking havoc at local ski areas about the winds we've been having.

While the avalanche danger level was at moderate I had a sense it was dangerous on exposed steep terrain due to recent windstorms and unseasonably high temperatures.  The two days proceeding the accident had unbelievable winds from the west.  Temperatures the day of the accident were running 15-20 degrees above normal, as they had been for days.  While skiing at Bridger the day before I noticed none of the regulars were venturing out of bounds due to fear (or respect) of the avalanche danger.
