All the weather forecasts Sat were calling for some mixed precip for Sunday. Skied Friday AM , all day Sat. and cleaned my locker out after Sat. for a trip later this month on the basis next weekend was being predicated as warm and soggy and in the event I didn't come out this coming weekend, I wanted to be sure I had all my stuff to pack for the trip the following Wednesday. Saturday's skiing ended up being OK. The surface was pretty slick after the first 2 hours but it started to snow and the inch or so that fell actually made a big difference. The moguls for the most part had been groomed off due the freezing that had taken place prior to the weekend. What bumps that remained were rock hard.
Woke up early Sunday and called the report expecting to hear rain being predicated and didn't. Thought what the heck, I had nothing else to attend to till the PM, I may well go skiing. Arrived for first chair at 8 AM and the sun was out and no clouds. The grooming the night before made a big difference and the surface ws excellent. About 10:30 the temp was up in the mid 30's, the sun was still out and the bumps started to soften . Skied nother 2 hrs. and had a blast.
I have to call yesterday a bonus day for the season. I didn't expect much and it turned out to be one of the best times I had at the local hill this season. Very good snow, perfect temps, sunny , and short lift lines.
I'm sure we all have enjoyed days like this and it just reinforces that you can be treated from time to time and have the day turn out to way more than expected. Unfortunately the reciprocal applies too, that being you expect a great day of skiing and it turns out to be pretty medicore.
I guess the old tag line ,"You have to ski it to believe it" thankfully does apply.
