Japan 2011

I was lucky enough to be dragged (kicking and screaming) from Chamonix to Japan a few weeks ago.

After a 27 hour non stop journey from Chamonix to Niseko, Hokkido we went night skiing for 3 hours

I probably look a little tired.

Wandering home the snowbanks were proof this place has seen quite a bit of snowfall

Next morning all the way up to the top, Quad to triple to oldschool single

Then hike to the top

The back bowls were quite expansive

The next few days there was some tree skiing

168772_10150136470817174_511777173_7867802_2124555_n.jpg

Some hiking for turns

182766_10150136470322174_511777173_7867786_1183314_n.jpg

Some drawing of S's

179836_10150136469957174_511777173_7867771_3958646_n.jpg

Some more hiking in the trees

168649_10150136470692174_511777173_7867796_2160132_n.jpg

I met a few snowboaders

167759_10150136469692174_511777173_7867763_7541028_n.jpg

And saw a few views

167590_10150136469857174_511777173_7867768_1336145_n.jpg

Before heading back to Tokyo to take the Shinkansen

181921_10150138643622174_511777173_7899612_595007_n.jpg

To Nozawa Onsen in the Nagano prefecture

169093_10150138643287174_511777173_7899603_1016565_n.jpg

Where they use hot water to clear the roads

181605_10150138643582174_511777173_7899611_7067051_n.jpg

And cook the veg

180805_10150138643027174_511777173_7899596_1745473_n.jpg

And ski some very untracked snow,

168905_10150138643087174_511777173_7899597_730565_n.jpg

Make snow angels

182449_10150138643457174_511777173_7899608_2704690_n.jpg

And meet local wildlife

181770_10150138861192174_511777173_7903431_3764366_n.jpg

They do get a bit of snow on their lifts

181553_10150138643722174_511777173_7899615_2881646_n.jpg

So they cover the escalators

182093_10150138643657174_511777173_7899613_7470335_n.jpg

And then be a tourist on the way home at the Tsjkiji Fish market

182093_10150138643657174_511777173_7899613_7470335_n.jpg

And catch a gimps of Mt Fuji for a future ski tour

I spent 4 years living in Japan, and can honestly say that the best days of skiing in my life happened there. Congrats on an amazing trip, I can't wait to take another trip back.

Sorry, the escalator only goes from the village to the gondola base. They put it in instead of replacing a double chairlift (which still runs) for the first few 100ft of vert.

Makes for great storm skiing though.
