Durango from Pagosa

Is this practical for a daytrip? We'll be staying at a friend's house in Pagosa Springs in early March and I'm wondering if Purgatory would be practical if we want a change from Wolf Creek.

Definitely.  From Pagosa Springs it is only about an hour to Durango, and then another 30 min. to DMR/Purgatory.  It is an easy drive, but if you end up staying in Durango for dinner and drive back in the dark you need to be careful because there are a lot of deer along that road.  I live in Durango and will be driving to Wolf Creek to ski tomorrow.  It is about an hour and a half each way.

Pagosa is a very common place for people to stay who ski Purgatory or they do the opposite and drive from Durango to Pagosa for the hot springs.

Thanks for the feedback. We'll definitely do it for one of our days in P.S. How about some local knowledge -- how to tour the mountain, etc. We're on the medicare side so we're more interested in cruising rather than steeps or bumps. We'll probably head back to P.S. before dark, but we're plenty used to dodging deer here in PA.
