What's up, everyone!
I got back into skiing after more than 10 years of sitting on my ass. I had never been much of a skier to begin with, so figured I'd look at it like I'm just starting out. So here I am, my name's Vlad and I'm a newB. (don't be hatin' )
I currently borrow my friend's Salomons with some old boots when I go skiing, and probably will not be buying skis until off-season, but I'd like to get some ideas on gear and get started.
From what I've been told, you should spend about half your budget on boots, which I decided, will be my first purchase. Skis - I'm thinking to maybe just buy the ones I'm borrowing from my friend and have them fitted with newer bindings and adjusted for my weight and height. I like them just fine and I'll probably score a pretty good deal on them, since my friend doesn't really use them. I think as far as boots go, its best to finalize the purchase at a physical ski shop, but what do I need to know? I basically want to be comfortable, but would like the boots to be well "above my level" of performance, even if I start getting MUCH better [is this thread getting too long yet?]. So anyway, I just want to know what is the best pair of boots in the sub-400 dollar range, I guess.
On top of that, I've got only one jacket - a Burton I practically stole from TJ Maxx (paid 31.30 - yes, thirty one bucks - I couldn't believe it either! that's how come I ski in a boarding jacket ) and some overalls from some generic brand. I want a proper ski jacket and pants. I am terribly partial to Spyder products, but would love to broaden my horizons in this dept as much as possible. Basically, aside from Spyder and Burton, my knowledge of gear is null.
Now, it is definitely a long-ass thread haha
anyway, TIA for any and all info!
